Hike the Catskills
Blackhead Range
Description:   There is parking at the eastern end of Barnum Rd.  This is a 6 mile
hike that is difficult and is a one way hike, so you will need two vehicles.  Blackhead
Mtn. is the highest peak on the Escarpment Trail and it is a 3000ft climb from
Winter Clove.  There is no view from the summit, but you can find a view west of
the summit as you are descending towards Lockwood Gap.  You can access this
peak from North/South Lake along the Escarpment trail, which makes for a very
long hike, or from Big Hollow from Lockwood Gap or from the North via Batavia Kill.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the 3500 club, this is a required
Winter peak.

You can also get to the top of Blackhead Mountain by parking at the end of Big
Hollow Rd.  Big Hollow road goes through Maple Crest and then past CD Lane
Park and the hike starts at the end of the road.  This is a fantastic way to go
because it is a loop.  The hike takes about 4 hours and is one of my favorite hikes
in the Catskills.
